Abstract
Recent developments in optoelectronics have made it possible to use fibre optic cables to enable so-called Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS). DAS systems make it possible to observe the acoustic signal simultaneously in discrete, regularly spaced zones along fibre optic cables up to many tens of kilometres in length. During this talk, it will be explained how this sensing capability has enabled the development of novel techniques in a wide range of areas within acoustics; including flow observation, seismic monitoring, and acoustic imaging.
