An FSI group seminar

Abstract

As part of the ShipRight design and construction procedures, Lloyd's Register has recently developed a Fatigue Design Assessment procedure, ShipRight FDA ICE, to assess fatigue damage of ship structure induced by ice loads for ships navigating in ice covered regions.  The presentation outlines the ShipRight FDA ICE procedure including the determination of trading routes in ice regions, ice loads and impact frequencies, structural stresses, fatigue performance at low temperatures, fatigue damage and acceptance criteria.  It also provides an overview of the assessment methodology and highlights the key elements with case studies.

Speaker information

Dr Shengming Zhang , Lloyd's Register. Dr Shengming Zhang, BSc, MSc, PhD, MRINA and CEng, is currently a Principal Specialist at Lloyd's Register, Marine Product Development. His research is on ship structures, particularly on fatigue of ship structures, ultimate strength and buckling strength of structures, loading on ships including fatigue loads, Green Sea loads, ship collision and grounding analyses, fluid-structure interaction and ship rules developments. He has published over 30 papers in peer reviewed journals and conferences. Presently, he is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Ship and Offshore Structures and a Member of Publication Committee of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects and a Member of Fatigue and Fracture Committee (2009-2012) and Ultimate Strength Committee (2006-2009 and 2012-2015) of International Ship and Offshore Structure Congress (ISSC).
