HABC Seminar
The binaural technique allows to create 3-dimensional audio using a simple pair of headphones. After a brief overview on binaural audio and on the most commonly known challenges with this technique (e.g. HRTF individualisation, binaural reverberation, simulation of distance, etc.), the presentation will focus on a few research projects currently in progress in the Dyson School of Design Engineering at Imperial College London. These include work on binaural spatialisation algorithms and hearing loss/hearing aid simulation (the 3D Tune-In Toolkit), on VR-based HRTF adaptation/accommodation, and on VR-based spatial hearing training for cochlear implant users.)The presentation will be followed by a demonstration of some of the 3D audio applications developed within the aforementioned projects.
Speaker information
Dr Lorenzo Picinali, Imperial College London. I am a Senior Lecturer in Audio Experience Design at Imperial College London. In the past years I have worked in Italy, France and UK on projects related with binaural spatialisation and spatial hearing, looking both at the theoretical side of things, and at applications in areas such as hearing aids technologies, auditory displays, audio and haptic interaction, auditory training and, more in general, acoustic virtual and augmented reality.
