For my project I'm working with Dyson, and this has given me an inside edge about working in industry. I've benefitted not only from the project and the research involved, but also what I’ve learned about working in industry.

What made you choose to study at Southampton?

I chose to study here because, in my field of mechatronics, it’s one of the best universities in the UK. I'm really happy with the work I have done, and with my choice of Southampton.

I am working closely with Dyson. We have a really good relationship and they are open to new ideas.  I’m also going to their factory next month, and working with them has been really rewarding.

What’s been the highlight of your time in Southampton?

I am a sportsman, and I really enjoy the opportunities available here. There are a lot of places you can go to play sports. It’s easy to make friends, and the city is an amazing place to go out. It’s not expensive, but you can have a lot of fun! I also like the waterfront here.

What’s been the best part about doing this project?

I think it has been working with Dyson. It has given me an inside edge about working in industry. I spend most of my time not only researching, but also undertaking management, for example I’ll be making phone calls, asking for samples, and talking with suppliers. I've benefitted not only from the project and the research involved, but also what I’ve learned about working in industry.

What are your plans after you’ve finished your course?

I’ve accepted a job offer in the north of England. I was pleased get an offer from Bentley Motors, so I’m moving to Cheshire later this year. I’m really happy, and if I hadn’t studied at this course at Southampton, I wouldn’t have been able to get the job offer.
