Hi, I'm Fiona Matt Heath and I studied MSc Computational Engineering Design (AMES) within Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton.

Southampton has a high rating for engineering, with a wide variety of modules and good job prospects. The lecturers are great, they encourage you to ask questions during lecturers and are always available to explain concepts via e-mail or in drop in sessions.

I did my undergrad BEng Aeronautics and Astronautics here, and decided to switch to an MSc as it offered me more flexibility and the chance to further my knowledge in computational engineering, which is what I enjoyed most. Since joining the University I have been an active member of the Cheerleading squad, Southampton Vixens and have attended regular fitness classes.

The part I have enjoyed most about my course was when I took an Applications of CFD module with Dr. Xie, and was taught the basics of CFD as well as how to run simulations on the computer, and create a CFD module and associated grid.

I have now chosen my dissertation topic, which is working with the Auditory Implant Service to write a web-based application to set the levels on children’s cochlear implants. This project is aiming to help children have a more enjoyable and faster experience when attending the centre, to have their cochlear implants levels set.
