Hi, I'm Ian Radcliffe and I studied MEng Mechanical Engineering within Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton.

My time at Southampton was not all hard work. Being part of a sociable research group was important as we could enjoy our time together whether at a conference or at a gig. I was also able to make use of the sports clubs and facilities whilst preparing for the Windsor half marathon and for kickboxing training, where I met my girlfriend.

Having enjoyed my time as an Undergraduate at Southampton I believed it would be the ideal place to continue my education. I was aware of the Bioengineering Research Group as two of my course mates had taken up PhD studentships the previous year. I chose this course as I found the topic interesting and I got on well with my supervisor.

I always found the atmosphere within the University to be supportive particularly within my research group. Training was made available whenever required. Presentation skills courses and writing course helped to develop my confidence and writing standards, which have become invaluable since.

During my studies I was fortunate enough to have a number of journal papers published, in conjunction with my supervisor. I was also able to travel, presenting my research at several major conferences.
