I completed my Undergraduate degree in Biomedicine and Anatomy at Cardiff University prior to pursuing a Masters degree in Tissue Engineering in 2016. My BSc provided me with a solid foundation in biomedicine, with a 3-dimensional appreciation of biological systems through the study of human anatomy. This revealed my interest for the field of Tissue Engineering where principles of normal physiology are applied to reverse a pathophysiological or injured state, via the application of bioengineering techniques and technology. I therefore pursued an MSc with Cardiff University Institute of Tissue Engineering and Regeneration. My research project explored the application of dental pulp stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles in bone repair and investigated differences in osteogenic potency between stem cell subpopulations. The focus of this project was harvesting naturally derived nanoparticles from the extracellular space which mediate tissue repair through their interaction with stem cells, via intercellular signaling. I am currently a first year PhD student in a cross-disciplinary Bioengineering program between Engineering and Physical Sciences and the Centre of Stem Cells and Regeneration at the University of Southampton, under the supervision of Dr. Nick Evans and Dr. Dario Carugo. My research intercepts the field of Tissue Engineering for bone regeneration with novel Nano and Micro Therapies. This explores the use of acoustically stimulated microbubbles for the release of drugs or molecules to induce stem cell stimulation for bone fracture repair.
