Mr Andy Oakey is a postgraduate research student in the Transportation Research Group at the University of Southampton, within Engineering and Physical Sciences.
Andy Oakey received a BEng degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Southampton in 2018. He was awarded the CILT award for Undergraduate Logistics Dissertation of the Year for his final year dissertation investigating the potential of walking porter supported urban logistics in London.
On graduation, Andy joined Atkins as a Rail Planner in the Transport Consultancy and Advisory team in London, working on major projects relating to the future of the UK rail system.
He then returned to the University of Southampton as a PhD student in the Transportation Research Group in 2019. His research focuses on the development of a shared fleet logistics system, using the NHS same day delivery networks as a case study.
During the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, he carried out fundamental work with the Computational Design Engineering team to support medical logistics to the Isle of Wight using UAV technology. In recognition of this research, he won the faculty wide award for doctoral research in 2020.
