Christian Cox is a Postgraduate research student within Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton.

First year PhD Student within Engineering and Physical Sciences working to investigate ultrasonic techniques for use in dental care.

2013-2017 - Integrated Master of Biomedical Sciences 1st Class (Hons) at the University of Southampton, specialising in microbiology and immunology.

Research interests

I have a particular research interest in medical microbiology, having completed undergraduate projects in biofilms and pulmonary immunology. These have included looking at; the adaptation of the microbe P. aeruginosa to living in a nutrient-deficient environment, molecular similarities between nutrient stress responses in eukaryotic cancers and biofilms, and the effects of corticosteroids on the progression of influenza A infections.

My research focus now shifts to dental bacteriology and how the problems caused by these plaque biolfilms can be overcome through the use of ultrasonic technology. This work is being undertaken within NAMRIP, the Network for AntiMicrobial Resistance and Infection Prevention, and is co-funded by GlaxoSmithKline plc, and the BBSRC.
