Kamran graduated from the University of Southampton in 2016 with a degree in MEng Mechanical Engineering with a semester in industry. For his final year group project, Kamran managed a team of seven to design a test rig for class 450 train doors to investigate the degradation of the components due to the cyclic operation.
In 2015 Kamran completed an internship with Siemens Rail Systems in Southampton, to develop the technical incident database to a higher standard.
Following this experience, Kamran joined a team of six to participate in 2016 IMechE Railway Challenge. This involved leading the electronics and control team to improve the traction and braking systems of a miniature railway locomotive.
Following the completion of his degree and internship Kamran started his PhD research within the nCATS group, having earned a Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship in 2016. His research is funded by Schaeffler Group focusing on the development of ‘smart bearings’ which are instrumented with advanced sensors. The aim of this project is to use big data and analytics for intelligent bearing fault detection and life prediction.
