Michael Forrest is a postgraduate research student studying for a PhD in Engineering and the Environment within the Transportation Research Group at the University of Southampton.

Michael graduated from the University of Exeter in 2016 with a BEng in Mechanical Engineering. He went on to take up a role with Devon County Council as a Graduate Trainee Transport Planner from 2018-2020 where his focus was on the processing and reporting of road safety statistics. During this period, he was given the opportunity to study part time for an MSc in Transport Planning and Engineering at the University of Southampton, graduating with a distinction in 2020.
In 2021 he decided to return to the University of Southampton to work towards a PhD, the focus of which is how we can more effectively analyse and model crash data to improve our understanding of traffic safety.
