Mr Ravi Pal

Ravi Pal is a PhD research scholar within Engineering and the Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton.

I completed my Master of Engineering (ME) in Electronics and Communication Engineering from University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Panjab University, Chandigarh, India. After completion of my masters, I have worked as a Project Fellow at the same university under University Grants Commission Special Assistance Programme (UGC-SAP) project “Active Noise Control System” to minimize ambulance siren noise around the patient ears using virtual sensing based active noise control system.

Research interests

Signal processing and biomedical signal processing

PhD Research

Automated Analysis of Lung Sounds as a Predictor of Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP)

My current PhD project focuses on signal processing and analysis of lung sound recordings to evaluate the usefulness of extracted acoustics features for predicting and monitoring development of Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP). A long-term goal of the project is to provide a robust and reliable system that can easily be used by health service professionals in clinical surroundings.

My supervisors on this project are Prof Anna Barney (Signal Processing, Audio & Hearing Group, Institute of Sound and Vibration Research), Prof Anne Bruton (Rehabilitation and Health Technologies, School of Health Science) and Prof Mike Grocott (Clinical & Experimental Sciences, Faculty of Medicine).
