Miss Rebecca Presswood MEng (Hons)
PhD Student, CDT Sustainable Infrastructure for Cities

Rebecca Presswood is a postgraduate research student within the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences. She completed her undergraduate studies in Southampton and is now researching the use of stainless steel in composite bridge structures, with an emphasis on sustainability.
Her research aims to investigate the structural behaviour and design of stainless steels within composite steel-concrete beams, through experimental tests and finite element analysis. Life-cycle cost analysis will be used to assess the costs and embodied carbon of stainless steel bridges. The results will feed into future design code guidance.
- Graduated in 2021 with a First Class Honours MEng degree in Civil Engineering and Architecture from the University of Southampton
- Summer research placements in 2020 and 2021 contributing to a journal paper, Construction and energy aspects of affordable housing developments for formal settlements, due to be published in December 2021
