Miss Viktorija Smelova is Postgraduate research student within Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Viktorija obtained BEng degree in Aeronautics & Astronautics/Material and Structures at University of Southampton in 2014. During her 3rd Year individual project, she has grown interest in wind turbine failure investigations.

In October 2014, Viktorija started her PhD within nCATS Group funded by Schaeffler. Her project is focusing on premature failure mode in wind turbine gearbox bearings.

PhD research on White Etching Crack (WEC) root causes and its relation to material microstructures and surface treatments.

Supervised by Dr Ling Wang, Dr Terry Harvey and Dr Walter Holweger (Schaeffler).

This PhD project is funded by Schaeffler Group.
