Research project: Acoustic Source Location Techniques on Aircraft Engines

This PhD project focusses on developing acoustic methods for incorporation in the aeroengine interstage to characterize the noise sources at the rotor blades and the stator vanes in the presence of rotor wake swirl and source near-fields

The PhD project attempts to characterize the broadband noise sources at the rotor and the outlet guide vanes (OGV) by making measurements in the engine interstage through extending the existing source location techniques for including the effects of near-field sources and swirling mean flow.

This project is sponsored by Rolls-Royce and will be carried out in Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre in Gas Turbine Noise (RR-UTC), Institute of Sound and Vibration Research, University of Southampton.
