The main aim of this research project is to develop and evaluate methods for quantifying the pitch perception abilities of severely or profoundly deaf people who use (or intend to use) cochlear implant technology.

Project Overview

A meaningful, reliable and valid measure of pitch perception could: assist clinicians in determining the (re)habilitation needs and progress of CI users; provide additional indicators of candidacy for Hybrid or Electric-Acoustic Stimulation (EAS) implants; facilitate the optimisation of CI parameters and evaluation of novel signal processing strategies; and provide a better understanding of the interface between CI technology and processing in the human auditory system. This CASE studentship is funded by the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council and Cochlear Ltd.
