Research project: Virtual acoustics imaging system for multiple listeners using an auditory process model for sound localization

Currently Active:

Can stereo be enjoyed by more than one listener?

Traditional stereophonic reproduction over loudspeakers suffers from a small ‘sweet spot’ – the area in which the listener’s head mus be in order to perceive the intended spatial reproduction. By reference to an auditory process model, this project investigates whether the signals driving a conventional stereo loudspeaker system can be manipulated to allow the intended spatial reproduction to be perceived simultaneously by multiple listeners.
