Hi, I'm Charlotte Morgan and I studied BSc Audiology within Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton.

I am now working in Exeter for Chime Social Enterprises which provides the audiology service for NHS Devon. I have taken the confidence and skills I have learnt at the University of Southampton and the Deaflympics into the work place and I am really enjoying the challenge.

I decided to do an Audiology degree after doing a placement at my local audiology department. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience with the combination of science, technology and patient interaction and care.

I chose to do the audiology degree at the University of Southampton because of its excellent reputation, enthusiastic lecturers and the close proximity of the South of England Cochlear Implant Centre. The course did not disappoint, with lectures focusing on the theoretical and scientific side of audiology and practical sessions that equipped you with the clinical skills needed to be an audiologist.

My fourth year research project involved looking at the evidence behind the Deaflympics criteria and the impact hearing loss may have on sports performance. This research was the first to be conducted into this area which was both exciting and daunting.  I was supported in this by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) which organises the Deaflympics.  This led to me being invited to be an ICSD audiologist at the 22nd Deaflympics 2013 in Sofia, Bulgaria.

I had a brilliant time at the Deaflympics, it was really rewarding and I gained invaluable experience. I performed hearing tests on athletes from many different countries and learnt how to set up and organise a clinic. I also worked in partnership with a leading manufacturer of hearing and balance equipment and software where I was able to use the latest equipment. Furthermore, I was able to interact with the Deaf community and even managed to learn a little sign language!

I am now working in Exeter for Chime Social Enterprises which provides the audiology service for NHS Devon. I have taken the confidence and skills I have learnt at the University of Southampton and the Deaflympics into the work place and I am really enjoying the challenge.
