Congwei Ye MSc AMES Mechatronics
Senior Project Engineer at Air Products & Chemicals
Hi, I'm Congwei Ye and I studied MSc AMES Mechatronics within Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton.
I have found my lecturers and tutors very encouraging and supportive. The teaching facilities are effective.
What do you do?
I am based in China and I now work as a senior project engineer at Air Products & Chemicals in Shanghai with responsibility for preliminary design, scheduling, construction supervision and closure of significant engineering works.
What made you choose your course?
I was interested in Mechanical Science, therefore chose the MSc AMES Mechatronics pathway
What have you enjoyed most about your course?
My Graduate Project with Prof. Martyn Hill.
What are your lecturers and tutors like? Have you found them supportive?
I have found them very encouraging and supportive.
What are the teaching facilities like here?
Effective
Have you undertaken a project as part of your course?
Yes, my graduate project is part of a big project “sonartweezer” directed by Prof. Martyn Hill.
If yes what did you have to do and have you enjoyed it?
I worked on a project to develop methods for moving using biological cells ultrasonic forces. I quite enjoyed the project, especially when I had the opportunity to work closely with colleagues from University of Dundee to test a prototype device. The results of the project were an important step in verifying the potential of this approach and consequently I was a co-author of papers presented at international conferences in Groningen, and San Diego and of a paper in the IEEE transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control:
P. Glynne-Jones, C. Démoré, Congwei Ye et al. (2012). Array Controlled Ultrasonic Manipulation of Particles in Planar Acoustic Resonator. IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 59, 1258-66.
How do you think your project will help you in your future career?
I think my participation in this project will improve my independency of developing a project, and my ability to communicate.
Why did you choose Southampton?
I chose Southampton because of the University ranking and also the scholarship I received.
