I chose to study at Southampton, as there is a good opportunity for gaining summer work experience through the SUCCESS scholarship programme. I also liked how the modules include a large number of practical sessions and laboratories, which run alongside the lectures.

What it’s like to study here

The course is well organised and lecturers are happy to provide additional help when asked. With open spaces as well as shops and cafés, the campus is a good place to both study and relax, making the overall atmosphere friendly.

The facilities at university

With department specific study areas as well as the library there are a large number of study spaces to suit both group work and individual study. There are many opportunities to use new equipment and technologies throughout the degree in labs and as part of the design modules.

My Southampton ‘highlights’ so far

One highlight was winning the second year design prize for my “Design 2” group project. Some of my best experiences have been from my summer work placements, organised through the SUCCESS programme.

What I enjoy most about my course

I enjoy applying the theories and techniques learnt in lectures to real life scenarios and problems.

My experience of university accommodation

I stayed in Glen Eyre Halls whilst in my first year. The halls had a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere with 24-hour support available. With a student committee organising regular events there were lots of opportunities to make new friends throughout the year.

How I find the city of Southampton to live in

Southampton is a busy city with lots of shops and restaurants. The public transport links from the university are quick and reliable with buses running regularly from campus to the town centre.
