Hi, I'm James Ogilvie and I studied MEng Environmental Engineering within Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton.

A significant amount of what I studied at university has been directly relevant to my work and I feel that has put me in a very strong position during my career. I still regularly refer to my old lecture notes in the office, particularly those from the Hydraulics, Hydrology, HEC-RAS and Soil Mechanics courses that I took.

James is currently working as a Water Resources Engineer for Golder Associates in Vancouver, Canada.  He works in the Mine Water Management group, which provides specialized services in water management and engineering for a number of international mining clients. His work covers a wide range of engineering challenges relating to managing water and environmental issues associated with large scale mining, but specifically includes the detailed engineering design of water management infrastructure (channels, sediment ponds, hydraulic structures, etc), construction supervision of these designs in the field (resident engineer on site for construction projects), water balance modelling (analyzing water requirements over the entire mine life) and river modelling and design (most commonly for post mining restoration).

James graduated from the University of Southampton's Environmental Engineering program in 2009 and values what he learnt during his time in Southampton.
