Peter Herrod-Taylor MEng Civil Engineering

Hi, I'm Peter Herrod-Taylor and I studied MEng Civil Engineering within Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton.

I applied to Southampton because of its growing reputation as an up and coming university and its status as a top university for civil engineering.

I grew up near Okehampton in Devon and gained AS Levels in Design & Technology and Further Maths and A Levels in Maths, Chemistry and Physics at my local comprehensive. I applied to Southampton because of its growing reputation as an up and coming university and its status as a top university for civil engineering. I came here not only because of its reputation but also because it is a large campus based university which offers a wide variety of activities and is in close proximity to the city centre. I was interested in an MEng in Civil Engineering due to my interest in dynamics, mechanics and structures and a desire to gain chartership with both the ICE and IStrucE. Studying at Southampton has been a great experience which I will never forget. In particular, I have enjoyed the theoretical and practical nature of the course and the social life that Southampton offers its students. In the future it is my intention to secure a graduate job with one of the UK’s largest contracting firms and work towards chartership.
