Studying Abroad

Studying abroad provides an invaluable experience of living and working in a different country. It helps develop independence and confidence and can significantly boost your employment prospects. We offer a variety of opportunities for you to study abroad as part of your course. These include schemes related to our University-wide programme and other opportunities specific to some of our courses.

Opportunities in Engineering

Aeronautics and Astronautics

Subject to academic performance, MEng Aeronautics and Astronautics students can choose to study at Penn State University, USA; Technical University Delft, Netherlands; ESTACA Paris, France; and SUPAERO Toulouse, France; Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, USA.

Civil Engineering

MEng Civil Engineering students can choose to broaden their experience at a range of universities. We run exchange opportunities at École Centrale de Lyon and École Superieure du Génie Urbain in France. Italian institutions includeUniversity of Bologna and University of Naples Federico II. Civil Engineering undergraduates can also opt to study at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, China, as part of their course. Faculty-wide partners include Kyoto University and the University of Tokyo in Japan plus Penn State University and Purdue University in the USA. University-wide partners include institutions in Australia, New Zealand and South Korea.

Mechanical Engineering

We offer students the option to expand their study experience at Penn State University, USA; Purdue University, USA; Linkoping University, Sweden; University of Canterbury, New Zealand; and ESTACA Paris, France.

Ship Science

Ship Science students have the opportunity to study at the Webb Institute in the USA. Previous students with part study experience at the Webb Institute have maintained good links with Webb alumni and extended their professional network.

We also offer a variety of European exchange opportunities, including Kungliga Tekniska Hogskilan (KTH), Sweden, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Norway, Technical University of Darmstadt (DTU), Denmark, Tallinn University of Technology & Kuressaare College, Estonia, Universitat Hamburg-Harburg, Germany, University of Galati, Romania, Universidade Tenica de Lisboa, Portugal, Université Montpellier 2, France, and University of Lyngby in Denmark. Our Ship Science students can also study at the University of Malta, University of Trondheim, Norway, Gdansk University of Technology, Poland, and Istanbul Teknik Universitesi, Turkey, and the Universita degli studi di Perugia and Universita degli studi di Trieste in Italy.
