Crossing Boundaries: An afternoon of talks hosted by the Centre for Contemporary Writing, 22 April 2010.

The Centre for Contemporary Writing will host an afternoon of talks on Thursday 22 April from 2-5 pm in Room 2115, Avenue Campus.

Ang Swee Chai, Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at St. Bartholomew's Hospital in London, medical aid worker, co-founder of Medical Aid for Palestinians and author of From Beirut to Jerusalem (1989) will speak on the politics of aid work and on crossing boundaries between a London hospital and aid camps and between war zones.

Pauline Melville, author of Shape Shifter (1990), The Ventriloquist's Tale (1997), The Migration of Ghosts (1998) and Eating Air (2009) will read from her novels and talk about the crossings in her fiction between Europe and the Americas, the magical and the real, the past and the present.

The talks will be followed by a round table and open discussion.
