A Lecture by Dr Esther Saraga

A Parkes Institute Seminar

Esther's research explores ways in which a private collection of personal papers, official letters and documents can be used to explore the lived experience of her parents, two German Jewish refugees.  She analyses the papers in the context of historical writings on the events lived through as well as of memories of family stories told to her, focussing on what the letters reveal about how it felt to be forced to leave Germany, construct a new life and how such feelings were managed.
