Mr Bevil Luck

Bevil Luck is a Postgraduate research student in English at the University of Southampton.

I completed my BA in English at the University of Oxford in 2012, completing extended essays on geometry in the poetry of Emily Dickinson, and a reappraisal of High Modernism through a comparison of W.J. Turner's 'The Seven Days of the Sun' and W.C. Williams's 'Spring and All'. I spent two years working in London before beginning my PhD at Southampton in 2014, which is supported by a University of Southampton Archive Studentship.

Research interests

My PhD thesis currently has the working title of 'The Anachronism of F.T. Prince' and is supervised by Dr Will May and Prof Peter Middleton. My research focuses on notions of time, belatedness, neoclassicism, and ekphrasis in the poems of F.T. Prince, once Head of English at Southampton, and one of the most influential though little-known poets of the last century. Much of my research and discoveries rely on an exploration of the extensive and recently unembargoed F.T. Prince Archive in the Hartley Library here in Southampton.
