English Teachers’ Network

Facilitating dialogue between primary, secondary and tertiary sectors. 

Funded by the Higher Education Academy and the Edyth Jeffries Shakespeare Project, the English Teachers' Network has been created across schools and other HEI institutions in the Southampton area to enable dialogue between teachers and academics and to ensure the sustainability and growth of our undergraduate placements programme.The project will disseminate innovative classroom techniques and materials for new and emerging fields in literary studies and contribute to the educational experience of local children by not only enriching the content and delivery of the curriculum but by also providing contact with undergraduates who will introduce them to the idea of HE study. 

Workshops for schools

Undergraduates are currently able to deliver lessons in the following areas: International Writing : Explores what we can learn about other cultures through writing Holocaust Literature: Explores creative writing as a response to the Holocaust Teaching Shakespeare : Engages with Shakespeare's language through drama-based activities

Playing with Shakespeare workshops

Led by Professor Ros King and Patrick Sandford,the Nuffield Theatre's artistic director, this workshop explores ways to engage and enthuse young people with Shakespeare. Free for network members.
