School placements

Supporting our undergraduates in the classroom

Our undergraduates have been exposed to a wide range of pedagogical and theoretical approaches and bring subject expertise which they can disseminate both to teachers and to pupils in the schools during their placements. But they need the sympathetic support of more experienced teachers in order to be really effective in the classroom. We therefore really value our school partners' participation in the project.

In brief, the school placements

• improve student confidence through the development of communication, organisational, and institutional skills
• allow students to give back to the community
• give Southampton undergraduates the opportunity to teach younger students from diverse backgrounds
• enable undergraduates to experience the workplace, and decide whether or not they wish to teach
