The value of placements

Whether a short-term period of employment during University holidays, or a longer work placement as part of your degree; experience in the workplace is widely recognised as being of great value to the student experience. Placements help you develop useful skills which will support you in employment post-graduation, and also allow you to apply the theory and knowledge you have developed on your degree into ‘real world’ situations.

For graduate recruiters, applicants with significant work experience such as that provided by a placement are far more attractive than a candidate with little to no experience in employment. These opportunities enable you to experience the pace and culture of industrial practice; students return from their placement with a deeper understanding of the the connection between their studies and business, and use this knowledge to shape their future career plans.
