About us

This group focuses on elements of care and safety that are essential for maintenance of health and dignity.

Our three research themes have programmes of research on skin health (in particular techniques to identify risk and prevent the development pressure ulcers) led by Dan Bader; bladder and bowel management (with a focus on continence technologies such as urinary catheters) led by Mandy Fader; and medicines optimisation (promoting the safe and effective use of medicines) led by Sue Latter.

The Fundamental Care and Safety theme also includes prevention of infection (led by Jacqui Prieto); and nutrition (led by Sue Green). This theme has joint research projects with the CLAHRC Fundamental Care programme (led by Peter Griffiths and Lisette Schoonhoven).
