On Friday 22 November 2019, STINTS held its first Public Engagement Event inviting stakeholders to learn more about the research that will be involved in our Training Network. This event represented the first introduction of STINTS to the public and therefore a start of the Impact Assessment. We were very grateful to all the attendees for making it such a productive day.

In addition to the EU Fellows, attendees included a specialist tissue viability clinician, a Clinical Governance and Audit Lead from the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and industrial representative (Essity, Sweden) and members of the public. The event provided an excellent opportunity for all the European Training fellows to describe their proposed research and discuss how it could be adapted to provide impact to both users, clinicians and society as a whole.

As well as presentations from the organising committee in Southampton (Bader, Worsley & Schoonhoven) and invited delegates, there were opportunities for round table discussions regarding potential impacts of STINTS and priorities from the members of public. This included a number of tables chaired by training fellows designed to stimulate discussion in the context of impact assessment.

The impact assessment clearly identified both the need for innovation in skin care and the direction in which research will achieve the greatest impact. Indeed, the Public Engagement day confirmed the overarching aims of STINTS and provided a clear focus in order to achieve maximum impact from its findings.

Each Fellow benefited from engaging with the public and understanding the context in which skin care is provided both in the community and acute healthcare settings. We thank each member of the public for their valuable input and look forward to working with them again in the future.
