Research project: Pressure reduction through continuous monitoring in community settings (PROMISE) - Dormant

Currently Active:
No
Project type:
Grant

Approximately 500,000 people in the UK will develop at least one pressure ulcer in any given year. Pressure ulcers usually affect people with an underlying health condition, who often have high levels of frailty. Many pressure ulcers develop when people are in their own homes, or in a nursing or residential home.  Project active: November 2017 to October 2020

Pressure ulcers (PU) remain a significant concern to the NHS; approximately 500,000 people in the UK will develop at least one PU in any given year. PU's usually affect people with an underlying health condition, often with high levels of frailty, many developing in community settings.

The project will determine if monitoring interface pressures in the patients' home allows a patient to adjust their positions according to their own interface pressures providing immediate and sustained images of the pressure exerted to alleviate discomfort or pressure damage. The technology will be implemented in Devon and Hampshire, with patients in their owns homes as well as residential and nursing homes in Cornwall.
