Anthony Minghella

Published: 1 March 2008

The University of Southampton and members of its film studies division are deeply saddened to learn of the death of film director and former BFI chairman Anthony Minghella, who was made an honorary graduate of the University in 2000 in recognition of his significant achievements.

Anthony Minghella, who came from this region and maintained active links with it, made an enormous contribution to British film and television culture, not only as a director and writer, with international successes such as The English Patient and The Talented Mr Ripley, but also as someone deeply involved in the advancement of the British film industry. His very tragic and untimely death is a great loss.
