PhD success for postgraduate Film students

Congratulations to Daniel O'Brien and Sherry Xu who both successfully passed their PhD vivas, pending corrections, at the end of July.
Daniel's thesis explored the concept of heroic masculinity in the 'peplum' film (sometimes known as the ‘sword and sandal’ epic), discussing a range of films and contexts ranging from 1950s Italy to contemporary Hollywood. Sherry's work explored Hong Kong cinema after the handover from Britain to China.
The candidates received praise from their examiners for the confident way they both defended their work.
Well done Daniel and Sherry.
