PhD success for Film Research student
We would like to congratulate Chris Penfold for having successfully passed his PhD viva subject to modest corrections.
Chris’ thesis, ‘Elizaveta Svilova: Female Authorship in Soviet Cinema’, explores the career of the Jewish editor, director and screenwriter, who is best known for her work on Vertov’s Man With a Movie Camera and was one of the most prominent women working in the film industry during the Stalin era.
The examiners were impressed by the vigour and command of Chris’ research and for the accomplished way he defended his thesis.
