Southampton Film Department gets behind Southampton’s Film week

Published: 3 December 2014

Three film students – James Chadwick, Chris Evans and Tomasz Scigala – proved to be excellent volunteers for this year’s Southampton Film Week, according to the event’s main organiser Susan Beckett, Chief Executive of City Eye.

Since 2008, City Eye has delivered the annual SFW in November which celebrates and promotes Film, making the city a beacon for all filmmakers and enthusiasts in the region. SFW incorporates a youth film festival, which sits alongside other popular strands including archive footage, documentary and music with film.

Anne Hogan, Film lecturer, was asked to take part in the judging of the SFW short film competition, where she found the standard of entries very high. And Associate Professor of Film, Dr Mike Hammond in addition to giving an introduction to the 1927 classic silent – Wings – accompanied by Donald Mackenzie on the Compton Theatre Organ in the city’s Guildhall, also joined with other members of the popular Dodge Brothers band to give a specially scored accompaniment to another great silent classic film, Beggars of Life (1928). This well attended event was hosted by the Turner Sims, also a great supporter of the SFW.
