Yuan Li is a second-year PhD student in Film Studies at the University of Southampton, UK.

Her major research interests are transnational Taiwan cinema, multilingualism in films, and the aboriginal East Asian cinema. The past research projects of hers including the cityscape portrayed in contemporary Taiwan films and the identity of youth in Taiwan New Cinema.

Research interests

My research focuses on the multilingualism in Taiwan New Cinema (TNC), which examines the history and purpose of applying different languages and dialects in the films of TNC since 1982. This research intends to analyse the connection between multilingualism in the films of TNC and the social, political, and cultural transition of Taiwan in that era.
