Hi, I'm Daniel Greenway and I studied BA Film and French within Humanities at the University of Southampton.

The film course at Southampton provides the essential tools for anyone who wants to work in film.

Daniel worked as a trainee on the major Hollywood production Batman Begins and, now working as an Editor, has been BAFTA nominated for editing TV series Humans.

My time at Southampton was invaluable in developing my critical approach to filmmaking, which I believe is vital for anyone who wants a career in the creative side of the film or TV industry. Through learning about what makes great films great and also by learning how to critically analyse and talk about cinema, the film course at Southampton provides the essential tools for anyone who wants to work in film – of course not forgetting you also need some talent, and a lot of determination too. Not only did my degree from Southampton help me get onto an Editing MA at the National Film and Television School, my learning also informs many of the day-to-day creative decisions I make in the cutting room.

After graduating I carried on making short films when I could and worked as a runner in post production facilities. I managed to get two weeks' work experience helping an Assistant Editor sync up rushes on the pre-shoot for Batman Begins. That turned into a six month job as a trainee learning how to prepare and sync rushes on 35mm film - where I also got a great insight into how the cutting room functions on a big budget film. After working on a few more big films in trainee positions I got a place on the National Film & Television school's two year MA specialising in Editing. During those two years I learnt how to cut on Avid Media Composer and gained a lot of editing experience working on drama, documentary and animation films with a wide range of directors. I also made a lot of good contacts with colleagues whom I work alongside in the industry today.

Since graduating from the NFTS I have been working as a freelance Editor and have cut short films, features, documentaries and TV drama including Southcliffe, Endeavour, Victoria and Humans - for which I was BAFTA nominated in 2016.
