Job Opportunities

Any vacancies in the Finance Department will be listed on the site for Management, Specialist and Administrative Jobs on our Recruitment site. Jobs will be listed under Finance.

I joined the Finance Department at the University of Southampton in April 2006 as what is now an Accountancy Assistant for the School of Chemistry.

I joined primarily to study for my CCAB qualification, having studied the early stages of CIMA via distance learning. I achieved my CIMA qualification in 2009 supported by the Finance department.

My work at the University meant I was also able to gain the experience required to complete my training and use the ACMA designation.

During my years at the University I have worked for more or less every school, Faculty and Professional service available (apart from medicine) through promotion and reorganisation.

I have been responsible for financial mangement of a wide variation of activities from the Turner Sims Concert Hall, Research in Chemistry, Humanities and Nursing, Sports and Recreation, Student Halls, to the Long term Maintenance of the University site.

Each role I have held has taught me something different both about the organisation and myself and has allowed me to work with some great teams of people.

Outside the day job, the department arranges sporting and charity events that create a sense of belonging and a chance to see colleagues and superiors in a very different light.

With this in mind throughout my time here there has been a healthy work life balance, which now allows me to care for my young family. My time at the University of Southampton has already offered me so many different experiences from one employer, opportunities you could be awaiting 20 years to come across elsewhere.
