The University of Southampton
Faculty Operating Service (FOS)

Business, Law & Art

The FOS works across Business, Law and Art to facilitate the smooth and effective delivery of quality administrative support services to meet the requirements of a world-class Faculty.

We are a first point of contact for a range of enquiries and are embedded at local level within the Faculty, providing professional support and advice and acting as a point of liaison and coordination for academic colleagues, researchers, students and both internal and external stakeholders.

The FOS team in FBLA supports and enables both the academic environment and the wider Faculty infrastructure to deliver education, research and enterprise priorities through the provision of core services. These include administration and secretariat support for key committees; space planning and facilities management and the effective coordination of critical strategic activities across the University’s range of Professional Services to meet operational requirements.

Our Faculty and Academic Units

The service comprises team members located within the Faculty Deanery and across our three Academic Units: Southampton Law School, the Southampton Business School and Winchester School of Art.

Faculty Operating Service: Roles and Responsibilities

The service provides administrative support embedded within each of the 3 Schools. Each School has a dedicated team providing comprehensive operational support and access to advice and guidance across the University’s network of Professional Services, whilst also supporting Faculty-wide process efficiencies and strategic approaches to maximise both available resources and collaborative working.

The FOS also supports FBLA at Faculty level including the administration of the Deanery (including personal support to the Dean and the Associate Deans) as well as coordination of Faculty-wide priorities and projects.

The Head of Faculty Operations (HoFO) John Kness coordinates the integrated delivery of Professional Service expertise to support the Faculty vision, strategy and objectives. The FEOs, Jess Hawkins and Kirsty McLean, lead the FOS team within Business, Law and Art and the safety agenda is managed via the Faculty Health and Safety Manager, Aloma Hack.
