Welcome Dinner 2015

Welcome Dinner 2015

At the International Partnerships Office we take our ‘duty of care’ for our overseas partnership students very seriously. As part of this, every year we throw a welcome dinner for our students when they arrive, giving them a chance to meet each other as well as be introduced to their head of faculty. This has always been very successful in helping students to settle in and feel at home.

Mark Cranshaw from the IPO opened the meeting with a speech welcoming the new students, followed by the head of Economics Dr Jan Podivinsky giving an overview of the programme. The personal tutor for the new students, John Aldrich, also attended the dinner – giving students a chance to put a face to a name before the term has even officially begun.

Most importantly, it gave new students a chance to meet each other, to discuss how they’d found the UK so far, and share any useful tips and tricks they had discovered. Further, it helped to create a sense of community which we hope will last throughout their time in Southampton.
