XMU Summer School
Class of 2016

In July 2016, the Faculty International Partnerships Office ran its first Summer School for Faculty students - a two week trip to the campus of one of our key partners, Xiamen University. It was a great success.

10 students from across the Faculty were selected from a large number of applicants to take part in the Summer School which ran from 3rd July to 16th July 2016. They were accompanied by Mark Cranshaw, the director of FIPO, whose Chinese language skills and links to Xiamen academics were invaluable to the students as they explored beautiful Xiamen for the first time.

The diverse itinerary included economics based seminars presented by Xiamen University Professors as well as opportunities to experience traditional Chinese culture in the form of calligraphy, painting and martial arts. Between seminars, there were trips to the surrounding area including visits to the Nanjing Earth Towers of Hakkas and Mount Wuyi, and excursions to local businesses such as Coca-Cola and Justsun.

This Summer School was the first one which FIPO had been involved in, so we did everything possible to make it as stress-free for the students. This included assistance with visa applications and booking flights, as well as information packs for all students to ensure that they got the most out of their visit.

You can find out more about their experiences by visiting the trip blog .
