In September of this year, representatives from the Faculty of Social, Human, and Mathematical Sciences accompanied the Vice Chancellor on a trip to India. The aim was to meet with delegates from top universities as well as state governments to discuss shared programmes in Social Sciences, and in particular in Social Enterprise.

Mark Cranshaw, Director of International Relations, Professor Derek McGhee, Dean of Social Sciences, Professor Martin Dyke, Director of Programmes in Southampton Education School, Professor Sabu Padmadas, Professor of Demography and Global Health and Dr Pathik Pathak, Faculty Director of Social Entrepreneurship, visited partners and government offices in Delhi, Bangalore and Trivandrum.

The trip was very successful and after discussions with the University of Kerala and the State Government of Kerala we are planning to work with colleagues to introduce a new Social Enterprise module as an elective at the University of Kerala.  The module will act as a pilot for a subsequent roll-out to Universities and Colleges across the State, supported by the Additional Skills Acquisition Programme (ASAP).

We’re very excited by the creation of this new programme and we hope that it will be the first of many similar joint operations in India.
