This May delegates from the University of Southampton's Faculty of Social, Human, and Mathematical Sciences attended the 3rd Global Ageing and Long-Term Care Network Workshop (GALNet) in Beijing, China. Over the course of the two day workshop they met with other academics from across China and beyond to discuss various facets of gerontology.

Prof Maria Evandrou, Prof Jane Falkingham, Dr Athina Vlachantoni, Dr Nele van der Wielen, Dr Zhixin Feng and Ning Wang from the University of Southampton met with delegates from the Department of Ageing and Lifecourse, WHO, delegates from HelpAge International Asia Pacific Regional Office, delegates from Tata Institute of Social Sciences in India and delegates from a number of our partner universities in China, including Renmin University, Zhejiang University and Xi'an Jiaotong University. Representatives from the delegations presented to the conference on their latest research into global ageing and the effects on long-term care provision.

On the second day, a team of delegates visited a community-based care home in Beijing, providing day care for local older people. Another group of the delegates took part in the China-India Population Ageing Forum alongside our partners from Tata Institute of Social Sciences.

After the workshop, Prof Maria Evandrou was invited to give a talk at the 14th Teaching Gerontology Forum at Renmin University, China.
