Friday 30 November saw the Faculty’s first ever International Food Festival. People from more than twenty countries joined our celebration and were able to share not only their diverse cuisines but music and dancing too! We certainly tasted our way around the world, from British slow-cooked lamb and scones, to Danish drømmekage, Mexican huitlacoche. Guatemalan corn cake, West African jollof rice, Indian samosas, Sri Lankan fish cutlets, to Chinese black bean chicken and steamed buns. The homemade dishes certainly showed how well our students and staff can cook!

After the gastronomic delights, we were then treated to some beautiful and mesmerising performances. HinduSoc began with a tremendous, energetic Indian dance routine and then the evening was drawn to a close by some traditional Indian and Chinese singing, including Peking opera, sung by our students.

Without leaving Highfield campus, we were able to embark on a global voyage thanks to our cuisines, music and dance, and could share a part of our home culture with the Faculty community.

Here are some Tweets from the event.

From all of us in the Social Sciences International Office, we would like to say a huge thank you to those of you who were able to attend and make the evening an enormous success! We hope you loved the Food Festival and join us for another cultural celebration in the future…
