University of Southampton hosts India Day to celebrate the launch of the India Centre

On 13th March, the Faculty of Social Sciences organised India Day to mark the launch the India Centre for Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development and invited respected guests to the day’s events at the university’s Highfield Campus, including the Deputy Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Mr Charanjeet Singh.

Jane Falkingham, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and Sabu Padmadas, Associate Dean International of Social Sciences, welcomed the guests and joined in the day’s events to celebrate the university’s success and advancement in research scholarship and academic partnership with esteemed alumni, stakeholders, and higher education institutions in India and the UK. This culminated in a spectacular evening concert titled ‘Sounds and Colours of India’ held at the Turner Sims Concert Hall with a programme of both traditional and modern music and dance.

The concert was opened by The Clay Connection’s Ms.Vidya Thirunarayan and team’s traditional Indian Dance (with narration), and was followed an uplifting live traditional folk and contemporary Indian music performance by Sachin Mannath, KM Music Conservatory, Chennai. The evening continued with show stopping dance performances by Gaana Dance Society and Southampton ke Sitarein, Ms Kareena Lawson and team.
