University of Southampton hosts a pre-departure meeting and alumni reception in Bangkok
On the afternoon and evening of 21st June, a delegation representing the University of Southampton's Faculty of Social Sciences gathered in Bangkok for a pre-departure meeting and alumni reception. The delegation included Prof Martin Dyke, Head of Southampton Education School; Song Pan Utz, Senior Manager of Faculty International Office of Social Sciences; Dr Fatimah Zainudin of Southampton Business School; and Prof Nina Jorgensen of Southampton Law School.
During the afternoon, the delegation was pleased to meet the incoming students from Thailand and had the opportunity to extend a warm welcome to them on behalf of the university. Prof Martin Dyke and Song Pan Utz gave presentations on the topic of university life, providing detailed advice about what the students need to prepare for their imminent journey, including visa applications, GP registration, accommodations, and student experience. A lively Q&A followed, during which the delegates answered many student’s questions.
Afterwards the UoS hosted an evening alumni reception, where several of the alumni shared their experiences of Southampton with fond memories. Some of the attendees were at Southampton from as early as 2004 and it was invaluable for the new students to hear their stories. The FIO would like to thank the local alumni association who helped with the organisation and success of the event.
