Student Event: Careers and Further Study
On the 3rd March 2020, the Faculty International Office of Social Sciences hosted our third student event for the academic year. The programme of the event was a series of helpful sessions to give our international students across the Faculty, the access to the careers and further study advice and support that they need in order to plan for their future.
The first session was run by Graduate School Team Leader Claire Caffrey to give students an overview, as well as some useful tips, on applying for PhD study.
This was then followed by a Careers & Employability Service led session by Kelly Cumming Career Practitioner. Kelly gave an overview of how students can prepare well for their careers and make the most of the resources and support available.
Next Sarah Brook Work Experience Advisor for the Careers & Employability Service spoke about her role. Sarah discussed why work experience is so important and gave the students advice about how they can apply for opportunities.
Finally, Joan Ohizua, a current LLB student and Digital Intern at Southampton’s Public Policy Department, spoke about her internship experience. Joan explained about the application process, the role itself and highlighted the advantages of student internships to our international students in attendance.
After the sessions finished, the students and speakers in attendance relaxed together with some drinks and snacks, allowing students to ask the speakers more questions and seek further support.
The Faculty International Office team hopes that our international students who attended benefited from the advice provided. We have very much enjoyed hosting our student events and look forward arranging more events for our students in the future!
