On the 10th September 2020, the Faculty International Office of Social Sciences hosted an International Student Event and Pre-Departure webinar.

The purpose of the event was to welcome our international students into the Faculty for the 2020/21 academic year. This was also an opportunity for students to ask any questions that they may have before their arrival in the UK.

The webinar commenced with speeches by Prof Jane Falkingham, Vice President International and Dean, and Prof Sabu Padmadas, Associate Dean International, Faculty of Social Sciences, to give the students a warm welcome to the Faculty.

This was followed with helpful talks by Prof Martin Dyke, Head of School of Education, who discussed International Education, and Sergeant Eric Wong, Southampton Police, who gave a talk on safety and community support in the city of Southampton.

The event was also attended by current international students who shared stories with the newcomers about their time spent studying at Southampton and offered them advice. The attendees were also entertained by a singing performance by talented students Chenxuan Yu and Nero Xu.

The event was closed with a speech by Kieron Broadhead, Executive Director of Student Experience, who encouraged students to make the most of their student experience during their studies at Southampton.

The Faculty International Office team was pleased to receive such a great response from students. We very much look forward to organising more student events throughout the year!
