JUFE Autumn Online Promotional Talk

On 10th November 2021, the Faculty International Office (FIO) along with academic colleagues delivered an online promotional talk which was watched live by more than 3000 students and parents from our partner institution Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics (JUFE). The programme included several presentations which detailed our teaching strength, as well as the joint partner programmes and student support that FIO provides.

Ms Song Utz (Senior Executive Officer, FIO) delivered the opening address about the long-term collaborations between JUFE and Southampton. As a close partner of two decades, JUFE has been one of the most important partners of the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS). We have joint programmes spanning undergraduate, postgraduate and study abroad in Economics, Business, and Mathematical Sciences. After the introduction, Dr Carlos Lobo (Director of Internationalisation,  School of Mathematical Sciences), Dr Andrew Stainton (Principal Teaching Fellow and Study Abroad Programme Director, Southampton Business School) and Dr Jan Podivinsky (Director of Internationalisation, School of Economics, Social and Political Sciences) gave engaging talks on joint programmes with JUFE from their respective schools. It was followed by Ms Song Utz delivering a presentation about how we support international students throughout their student journeys at Southampton.

FSS colleagues used to visit JUFE a couple of times every year to answer students’ questions face to face. During the pandemic, FIO strives to keep the momentum of these interactions with partner institutions. In the following Q&A session, we specifically addressed students’ concerns regarding health and safety. Our safety measures on campus, together with details about the NHS service, brought peace of mind to many students and their parents.

This online talk received a great response. FIO will continue corresponding with partner students and answering their questions before they come to Southampton.
